"Sisters"
2001
24" x 36" Acrylic on Canvas
|
This painting came to me upon my return from California in 2001, just after the birth of my first grandchild. It sat sketched in the studio for months as I pondered how it would unfold. As it did, I delighted in the elements that compose it. The waterfall was first. A figure emerged there. Liquid and abstract, she is the feminine presence of nature personified. The sisters sought out this spot, one of their favorites, for its beautiful pool and tranquility. They celebrate their accomplishments. Perhaps one has just graduated from college, the other is newly engaged. Regardless, they haven't seen one another for a while, so they return to their favorite childhood place to touch the past and share their plans for the future. Abundance is represented by flowers and a koa bowl filled with fruit. The serene beauty of the jungle setting and the waterfall make this the perfect place for reflection. Original in the collection of Dr. Randy Cohen & Dr. Hillary Klonoff-Cohen.
