"Ponds at Hualalai
(Wai'akauhi Ponds)"
2005
24" x 48" Acrylic on Canvas

Coastal ponds in Hawai`i were made and maintained by the ancient Hawaiians in order to enhance their survival. They would gate the ponds - opening the gates when the tide was high and closing them after waves had delivered fish into the pond. The people could have food even if weather prevented fishing. These ponds are part of the Hualalai/Four Seasons property and today are restored and maintained as the ancients did. They’re alive with fish and birds. A very inspiring scene. I removed the buildings of man to see Hualalai mountain clearly.
