"Ka Lae Cliffs"
2000
16" x 20" Acrylic on Canvas

The first land the ancient Hawaiians set eyes upon as they sailed towards the islands. It is the rocky formation that is the southernmost tip of the Big Island of Hawai`i. It is a primal spot where all four elements coincide in a thunderous convergence. Waves relentlessly pound the rocks, while wind whips one's clothes and the sun beats down overhead.

HAWAII

Earth piles on layers
         of herself
                    Her inner core spreads out
                                  upon her own surface

                         rolling

                                skirting

                    spreading her most internal self.

Molten liquid to solid. An energy mass
                                      of nervous flowing red
                                                     in a veiny-patterned way.

     Nature repeats herself

       Weaving solutions

                       throughout our

                                            problems . . .

Resolution.
