"Ka
Lae"
Two paintings that
create one image is called a diptych.
Each painting is 30" x 40" creating one image 30" x 80"
Acrylic on Canvas
On the west facing slope of the Big Island's tip is a place locals refer to as "The Broken Road". Early in the 20th century a tsunami hammered Hawai`i Island removing the land that supported the road. Here we get a detailed look at the lava layers that formed the island over millions of years.
I placed the viewer at cliff's edge to look north towards the cinder cone at water's edge and the western slopes of Mauna Loa which recede in the distance. It's one of the 'on the edge' places in this world - an elemental crossroads where the wind, water, land and fire converge to create a breathtaking panoramic view.
