The Blue Hawaiian series has emerged as a melding of two subjects. I began the Hawaiian flower studies expressly to become facile with flowers so as to incorporate them as subjects into future works. That blending occurs in my Hawaiian figure paintings; but I wanted a whimsical format, so the idea of painting blue ladies (inspired by Picasso, & Indian Gods) hit a chord for me. Their faces contain a mystery which piques the observer's imagination. With closed eyes, but not sleeping, the blue ladies seem to be pondering private thoughts. All is beautiful. Their windows open to the sea, but their inner visions are open to conjecture.
